RE: [gatortalk] there's some stats I could do without

Ok, let’s look at some facts.

1.      We’re not in the same league with Alabama.

2.      Will Muschamp was not a head coach when he was hired.  He is a learn-on-the-job head coach.

3.      Will inherited Urban Meyer’s mess, a mess whose enormity is revealed a little more each day.  (Ambien for Everybody!)

4.      He has had one good season as head coach.  2012 seems like a long time ago, but it happened.  (notice I didn’t say great.  A win against Louisville would have been better)

5.      Last year’s injuries were devastating any way one could look at it.

The question is, can Muschamp pull it together and have a good season this year?  Then, can he recruit some players on offense to go along with his studs on defense?

If the answer to the last two questions it yes then all we have to do is be patient and let him learn and grow into his position.

We don’t really have much choice.  There’s no one who can come in and salvage this season should Muschamp fail.

I predict we will win at Tennessee.  We will beat LSU and lose against USC.  Then, we lose to FSU in a much closer than expected game, get a decent bowl game and WIN it this time.

All this will help with the recruiting thing and the future with Will is great.

I don’t want to think about the alternative.

Statistics paint ugly picture for Florida Gators

BY JESSE SIMONTON

MIAMI HERALD WRITER

Florida surrendered a school-record 645 yards in its 42-21 loss No. 3 Alabama, and according to Pro Football Focus, the sabermetrics tell an even scarier story.

According to the website, the Gators whiffed on 30 tackles, including four each by linebacker Michael Taylor and defensive backs Brian Poole andJabari Gorman.

Florida was dreadful on third down — on both sides of the ball — and eventually ran out of gas after tying the game at 21 early in the third quarter.

“Offensively, we were just 2 of 13 on third down,” coach Will Muschampsaid. “We couldn’t stay on the field and couldn’t get off the field defensively. It was a long game, and we just wore down. … We had some tempo planned for the game, but we couldn’t sustain drives offensively and if you can’t stay on the field, it’s tough.”
