Re: [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] NCAAF Florida AD to reevaluate after season - ESPN

I would also like to see what Roper could do with the same personnel but that would make the 3rd HC with no previous HC experience out of the last 4 hired.
Having said that though I watched two games yesterday in which all 4 teams are future Gators foes and honestly don't have much confidence we can beat any of the 4.

I would be OK with Roper taking over as HC.  Last time we had an offensive head coach it worked out fairly well.
Muschamp IS a good DC.  He needs to stay out of the offense just as SOS learned to stay out of the defense.  That's when SOS started to truly win and dominate.

Muschamp's problem is he thinks he needs to be fully involved in everything.  I disagree with that... He needs to be involved but not micromanaging.  We have had three offensive coordinators-- were they all horrible?  All terrible?  Are we to believe we hired people who sucked at their jobs or is there some common element that may be holding them back?

NCAAF Florida AD to reevaluate after season - ESPN
Sure, everyone says it's a bad idea NOW to fire a coach in the middle of the season, but IF we lose to UT the cries from upset Gator fans are going to be deafening and I think Muschamp's inevitible firing would become a huge distraction. IF we lose to UT I'd rather see Foley cut the Muschamp cord and see what Roper can do as interim, he WAS supposed to be a hot head coaching prospect if the UF offense turned around this season. I hate coaching changes but to quote Foley, what has to be done eventually must be done now.

Biachi makes a good point about pulling the plug on Muschamp before the end of the season.  Clearly Foley will be looking but I don't think he will make it public like he did with Zook.  I don't think there is another Urban Meyer lurking in the shadows.

I personally believe Mushchamp's biggest mistake was Durkin as DC.  I am thinking that Alabama only crystalized the problem that was showing up against Kentucky.  The D almost seemed to regress.  If Muschamp survives the year, he needs to go out and get a good experienced DC.

I think Roper is an OK hire.  I would have Roper spend some time studying Auburn and Auburn's practice behavior.  We probably will not see the Roper offense until about Georgia, however.  At this point, the offense is not able to play very fast.  It will take about 5-6 games to start hitting on all cylinders.

I still think Muschamp will have a hard time surviving a loss to Tennessee. That seat will be so hot he won't be able to sit on it.

I agree about Roper, Zeb. However, I think back to how brilliantly Driskel fought in that A&M game a few years back—the kid had it. It seems that after the broken leg all is lost. I don't know if he just lost his confidence or he feels the burden of carrying the offense and just can't handle it. I'd get a good hypnotist involved and if that doesn't give him the eye of the tiger back, we need to move on at QB.

I'm very happy with the Roper hire.

I don't think Driskel fits his offense, however, and year 2 under Durkin is shaping up like a donut.

Does it not scare the crap out of you that he says "we stunk on Defense" like that's the only part of the game that was bad?  It bothers me immensely!  I keep hoping that he's pointing to the D more, because the crappy O play is the elephant standing in the room.  I would feel better if he would call out the O to!  The crappy offensive play is the reason the D has been so bad in the 2nd half. 4 offensive plays in a quarter is not going to net you good defensive stats.  I'm trying to have faith that this coaching staff can fix these errors, but am having a hard time with what Coach is saying. Are any of you feeling this way too?

Florida AD to reevaluate after season

Florida Gators coach Will Muschamp, coming off a record-setting loss to No. 3 Alabama, will be judged on his program's entire body of work this season, athletic director Jeremy Foley said.
The Florida defense has given up 1,095 yards in the last two games, including a school-record 645 yards in a 42-21 loss to the Crimson Tide last week.
Jeff Barlis/ESPN.comWill Muschamp is 2-8 in this last 10 games as coach of the Florida Gators.
Despite the struggles, however, Foley said he's sticking by his coach but will reevaluate everything after the season.
"You never judge or evaluate a program based on one game or one season," Foley told "Open Mike" on 790 The Game in Orlando. "That's just not how we do things here. We're going to evaluate where we're headed -- where the players are, how is recruiting going, what type of staff we have -- (and) are we better?
"That's going to be plain for all of us to see, but it's also going to be played out over the course of 11 games and we'll see where we are when we get to the end of the season."
The Gators have won only two of their last 10 games dating to last season -- including a 1-6 mark vs. SEC teams. The Gators (2-1, 1-1 SEC) have a bye this week before visiting Tennessee on Oct. 4.
Asked about the team's performance, Muschamp was pretty blunt during Wednesday's SEC coaches teleconference.
"We stunk on defense," Muschamp said. "I'm extremely disappointed two games in a row of giving up the big plays we've given up defensively. We've got to get some things tied together better on the back end. That's the bottom line. ...
"The mistakes we've made in some situations back there are inexcusable."
