Re: [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] NCAAF Florida AD to reevaluate after season - ESPN

I am cautiously optimistic... Neither UT or UGA seem to have any defense whatsoever... I think our D, once the issues are fixed, can keep us in the games.  It will be up to the offense to take advantage of their porous defenses, and that will truly show where our offense is.  I truly believe that if Roper was given the full reigns, we would have more success.

I also believe Driskel should have a short leash.  He is the tale of two quarterbacks-- I don't need him to be great, I just need him not to suck.  How can QBs at Florida struggle so mightily and then succeed at other schools?  What is holding them back while here?

After watching UT play UGA yesterday and remembering our debacle in T-town...I don't see how the Gators will come out of Knoxville with a win unless SIGNIFICANT improvements are made on BOTH sides of the ball!!!!!!  Nothing would please this pessimist more than to be wrong about next Saturday...but I'm really worried.  I've been a staunch advocate for Muschamp AND Foley, but I'm thinking it may be time to let them both go...especially if Foley doesn't grow some balls soon!!!!

This week Jeremy Foley was quoted saying that Muschamp would be evaluated on the full season, but he had to say that, what else could he say, lose to UT and you will be fired.

But he fired Zook in the middle of the season and I can see him doing that again, in fact under certain circumstances, that would be the right thing to do.

Can you imagine the reception of Gator Fans if we lose to UT and come home and look bad against LSU and Missouri the next 2 games after UT. If we lose the next 3 games going into the bye week before UGA, I can't see how he's not fired immediately, make Roper the interim head coach and try to rally the team and fans and eliminate the constant questions about Muschamp.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm tired of the daily drama with Muschamp, I hope he turns things around starting Saturday in Knoxville, but I am expecting another loss.

Here's what a friend who I consider to be a very knowledgeable football observer had to say.

Will Muschamp -  I don't see how Muschamp survives.  The Florida team that played in Tuscaloosa didn't just lose.  They just looked bad.  Worse, they looked like a poorly coached team, and they looked that way last year even given the injury situation.  It wasn't just offense either.  The Defense, which is Muschamp's forte, looked terrible.  Plus Florida most likely has at least 4 more losses on their schedule and maybe as many as 6.  I don't see how any coach at Florida can survive that.  IMO barring some miracle turn-around Muschamp is already done.  To have even a remote shot, Muschamp has to beat Tennessee on 10/4.  If they lose to UT in Knoxville, Muschamp might not make it to the end of the year.  I think a lot of the most influential people down there have already moved on from Muschamp, and are just waiting till the end of the year so that they can start over.

Does it not scare the crap out of you that he says "we stunk on Defense" like that's the only part of the game that was bad?  It bothers me immensely!  I keep hoping that he's pointing to the D more, because the crappy O play is the elephant standing in the room.  I would feel better if he would call out the O to!  The crappy offensive play is the reason the D has been so bad in the 2nd half. 4 offensive plays in a quarter is not going to net you good defensive stats.  I'm trying to have faith that this coaching staff can fix these errors, but am having a hard time with what Coach is saying. Are any of you feeling this way too?

Go Gators!!!!

Florida AD to reevaluate after season

Florida Gators coach Will Muschamp, coming off a record-setting loss to No. 3 Alabama, will be judged on his program's entire body of work this season, athletic director Jeremy Foley said.
The Florida defense has given up 1,095 yards in the last two games, including a school-record 645 yards in a 42-21 loss to the Crimson Tide last week.
Florida's Will Muschamp
Jeff Barlis/ESPN.comWill Muschamp is 2-8 in this last 10 games as coach of the Florida Gators.
Despite the struggles, however, Foley said he's sticking by his coach but will reevaluate everything after the season.
"You never judge or evaluate a program based on one game or one season," Foley told "Open Mike" on 790 The Game in Orlando. "That's just not how we do things here. We're going to evaluate where we're headed -- where the players are, how is recruiting going, what type of staff we have -- (and) are we better?
"That's going to be plain for all of us to see, but it's also going to be played out over the course of 11 games and we'll see where we are when we get to the end of the season."
The Gators have won only two of their last 10 games dating to last season -- including a 1-6 mark vs. SEC teams. The Gators (2-1, 1-1 SEC) have a bye this week before visiting Tennessee on Oct. 4.
Asked about the team's performance, Muschamp was pretty blunt during Wednesday's SEC coaches teleconference.
"We stunk on defense," Muschamp said. "I'm extremely disappointed two games in a row of giving up the big plays we've given up defensively. We've got to get some things tied together better on the back end. That's the bottom line. ...
"The mistakes we've made in some situations back there are inexcusable."
