Re: [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] [SUN]: UF taking KISS approach

I had the same misgivings when I read that. Also it is not encouraging when the big news is that Tyler Murphy is finally able to practice again (as opposed to how great he has been doing the last week and a half putting in the Georgia game plan).
Makes me afraid to turn on the television Saturday.

I do like the idea of giving the OL fixed assignments, though. If there is one group on the team that has shown they cannot handle complex assignments, it's them. If they're not thinking as much, perhaps they'll be able to focus on blocking someone. Anyway, whatever they do with the kids, I think they absolutely need to think about plays and about designing and calling plays that are less predictable.

Exactly. That is why I have, from a very reliable source, news of a mandatory physics class for all DB’s prior to playing. There will also be quarterly continuing ed credits that must be maintained or risk losing eligebility. Shocking, but 100% true.

I do not believe that this is an accurate statement.

Riggs launched at the midsection of an airborne receiver.

By the time that the hit occurred, gravity being what it is, the receiver was much lower than he was at the time that Riggs left his feet, causing the top of Riggs helmet to hit the bottom of the receiver's.

As the rule is written, so be it. I think a welcome exception would be for hits that occur or were initiated while the target was airborne.

It is a little tough to predict where the hit will take place when the receiver's feet are not on the ground.

Frank Sinkwich.
In 1942 during the darkest days of World War II Georgia's coach schemed to
get the country's best players (who didn't go to Army) to attend their ROTC
program. While the Gators' brightest and best were helping the Allies in
North Africa and the Pacific, Georgia was winning football games.
Frank was their best player and on November 7 he padded his Heisman Trophy
stats on the back of a 75-0 Georgia rout of the Gators.
Shame on you, Georgia!

Tailgating Traditions: What's the Story of "Gators Wear Jean Shorts"?

Florida-Georgia is an experience like no other. It's a spirited mix of college tailgating, SEC rivalry at its best, and heated insults spewed between an evenly split crowd. The most creative and disarming of all insults being, "Gators wear jean shorts!" The first year I heard it, I asked a Georgia fan how it started, and he had no idea. Three years later, I've finally gotten to the bottom of things. So, without further delay, I give you the history of the "Gators wear jean shorts" insult that opposing fans get so much fun from.

It started back in 1997. Georgia hadn't won a game in years, and some of their fans realized it's hard to effectively talk trash when your team can't back it up. So Georgia fans, Kevin Davis and his fraternity brothers made their way to the stadium, helpless while Gators taunted and chomped at them. They worked desperately to come up with creative insults. Answering their prayers, a Gator fan strolled by wearing jean shorts, and Davis jumped on the opportunity. "Gators wear jean shorts!" he declared, and his friends began chanting the insult. They continued the chant during the game, and it caught on like wildfire. So many Dawgs were desperate to mock the defending national champs in any way they could, and they had found a way.

The Bulldogs won that day. It was their only win during the Steve Spurrier era, and they were proud of it. Davis and his friends returned to Georgia and immediately designed t-shirts to promote the insult that rallied the troops to an unlikely win and gave the Georgia faithful a victory to cling to for years to come.

Jort scoreboardFrom a couple fraternity brothers, to some t-shirts, and now everyone in the SEC calls the Gators out for out for their "Jorts" (a new word created to describe Jean shorts). Even Oklahoma had fans at the 2008 BCS Championship Game with a dry erase board counting Gators sporting the infamous Jorts.

The real question for Gator fans is which way to go about the statement. Gators can embrace jorts in all their hideous glory, thereby negating the insult intended by opposing fans obnoxiously screaming it at you.

The other option is to fight it head-on by informing our fellow Gators of their fashion missteps and encourage them to seek other wardrobe opportunities.

When jeans just don't cut it!Some Gators, proud of their Jort-wearing tradition, have gone so far as to make up quotes such as "Champions wear jean shorts" and "Jorts: The quality of a jean with the comfort of a short." It's hard to argue with their point since the Gators have a large winning record against Georgia since the comment was first made. There is even a facebook page entitled Support the Jort for Gator fans proud of their cut-offs.

Just for the fun of it, here are a couple things on the internet regarding Gator fans and their jort wearing tendencies.

It certainly is... which head should roll?  CWM doesn't have the "tenure" of Mack Brown.  He can't get rid of a coordinator to save his job.  He needs to decide if he wants to remain the HBC at UF or if he wants to go elsewhere.  If he wants to stay, he must make changes of himself or demand them from others...

Clearly, something is holding us back... I can't believe all the pundits missed out on our recruits, and they are all really that bad...

You are correct... It was not his offense, but he was a AHC.  Assistant or Associate Head Coach... whatever.  He was not calling the shots when they knocked off Oklahoma.  He was not in charge when they were making a name for themselves.  He was familiar with the game plans and was familiar with the offense, but it was not his...  I mentioned this earlier.

I am not sold on him.  I was hoping he could get it... I was hoping for some Idaho magic to show up, but the routes and the offense is predictable and unimaginative.  My team's offense got stagnant... what opened it up again was routes down field and rolling the QB out of the pocket.  Driskel and Murphy are both athletic players, they can move well... roll them out.  Slow down the blitzing...  Slow down the rush.  Move the pocket.  It worked wonders for a middle school offfense, why can't it work at the collegiate level and why has out coaches not done this?  Its a staple for a line that has trouble blocking!

We are missing something... coaching, players, something... Everything thinks we have great talent... where does that leave us?

I love Coach Dawg, but he needs to take the handcuffs off of Pease, if there are any, and let Pease call it as he wants and see where that leaves us.  It will expose the issue...

I didn't want to come out and say that... but that is all I can put together.  How complicated is this offense?  How was Boise State running it and our players can't?  I still can't help but think there is more to it than that... and that leaves the coaching.  Whether Coach Dawg dictates this conservative garbage or Pease is doing it, doesn't matter.  Neither is an excuse for a complete lack of routes across the middle or to the sideline.  Granted, when we need 8-10 yards, we get it on those hitches and stops, but they do NOT create any YAC and do not force a safety to make a decision...

Somehow I sense that someone (or someONES) on this offense just may not be the brightest bulbs in the store.  I'm not saying college football is on par with Quantum Mechanics, but I get the feeling that a wide variety of plays may be too much for some of these guys to remember.

Maybe I'm wrong.  Coaches probably wouldn't want to say it, anyway.  Coaches do say players 'aren't picking up blocking schemes' or they 'ran the wrong route.'  So, you know, maybe that's the problem.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why most, if not all, of our passing routes are static.  Receivers run 10 yards and turn around.  We do a bubble screen.  Our QBs are mainly throwing at players who are not even moving... Where are the crossing routes?  Where are the fade routes?  Where are the fly patterns, posts, and flags?

Are our QBs incapable of hitting a MOVING target?  The closest thing we have to that, and we don't use it nearly enough, is a slant-- which would just about ALWAYS be open with 9 men in the box.

This offense is truly confounding... and not in a good way.

Also... apparently Murphy hasnt thrown at all last week to rest his shoulder... annnnnd they "simplified" the game plan and made no "real changes" offensively.

Top Ten Reasons to Hate the Georgia Bulldogs

I hate Georgia with a passion, and you as a Gator fan should too. Certainly, we as Gators have our share of rivals with Tennessee, Florida State, Miami, and others; but here are ten reasons why Georgia should be at the top of your hate list:

1. If I have to hear about Lindsay Scott and "Run Lindsay Run" again, I will go off on someone in red and black. It was one play and one win back in the 80's that is completely irrelevant today. (Do you hear us talking about Bell to Nattiel every year?)

2. They consider themselves more classy than Florida fans because they dress up for the games in dress pants, button-ups, and ties. I think they look like their mom dressed them for church instead of a football game. Comfort beats looking like an over-dressed tool any day. Also, lose the red pants. They look like you stole them off the homeless clown under the Modis building.

3. They complain about the game being in Jacksonville rather than Atlanta....but you never heard them complain in the 80s, did you? That's because they have to have an excuse for getting beat and that's the best one they can come up with. It only comes up when they lose, though. When they win, they love Jacksonville.

4. Their defensive coordinator, Todd Grantham, was yelling at Chaz Henry before his overtime field goal kick, "You're going to f***ing choke!" while doing a choking motion. Stay classy, Georgia. (By the way, he made the kick.)

5. Because they bark at people. It always makes me wonder, do they realize they're actually barking at people? Seriously? The brain cells it must conjure up to bark and growl at people....

6. They claim a victory in 1904 against a team from Lake City, when the actual University of Florida that we cheer for today never fielded a football team until 1906.

7. They call their band the "Redcoats." Why support the British that we fought for our independence?

8. The 2007 Celebration will never be forgotten. NEVER. FORGOTTEN.

9. "Glory Glory" is their fight song? Do they even know that's the same song the Yankees sang as they burned down cities in Georgia during the Civil War? Incompetence.

10. Lastly, they think they're a national power. They aren't and they haven't been in 3 decades. They haven't been a national power since Herschel Walker left 30 years ago. Get over yourself, leg-humpers and let me know when you play for the real trophy, the BCS Title.

Every year at the beginning of the season, "This is our year..." Unfortunately for them, it always ends the same way. Just like this year.
