I really was going to write this response just after it was posted, but I've been too busy lately.  (Brought in about 20 bushels of oranges off my small grove of trees, got them washed, squeezed into juice and frozen for the next year.)

 

The success of the baseball team in taking the weekend series from previously unbeated Miami makes it easier for me to say now what I would have said then, but believe me when I say that nothing I would have said then has changed now.

 

Yes, this team has a long way to go to get back to Omaha.  I wouldn't bet they will do it.  But, then I wouldn't bet my money that any team of your choosing in college baseball would, or wouldn't, make it to Omaha...not now, in March.  It's a long season of about 53 games to get there for any team and a lot's going to happen during that season.

 

But, these young Gator players have a shot.  They've got tons of speed.  They are smart players.  The players are all very talented.  The bull pen is full of young talent.  And, Sully is a coach who knows how to lead a college team there.

 

The team is in the early 'jelling' phase of any team.  In my opinion, they have yet to find their catcher.  Gushue can't seem to throw down to second.  That's why Sully is giving Stypulkowski, a freshman, a shot at catching.  It will get worked out.

 

The pitching rotation is still being firmed up.  Some of the young guys pitched great against Miami.  There was some good pitching in the games we lost during the slump.  It will get better.

 

Hitting has never been a real problem for this team, but is improving. 

 

Sorry I didn't give a play-by-play for the Miami series, but this was opening weekend for the Dunnellon Little League and Paula and I have two grandsons we were cheering on...future Gators...maybe ball players.
