Re: [gatortalk] Fwd: [gatornews] Gainesville SUN GatorNews For 3/27 (WEDN), NOON EDITION

Most schools look at the essay part but focus on the traditional 1600 math/verbal score.  The written score is usually the tie-breaker in close-call admissions.  Internally the writing score is often omitted for first-line admissions scoring.  Also, you might find it interesting that overall the SAT is not that great of a predictor.  However, the tails are good predictors.  (a 700+ Math SAT is unlikely to struggle in math.  Likewise, a 700+ English SAT is unlikely to have difficulty in English classes.  A 450 SAT in either math or English is not a great predictor of success.)

This probably fall under the TMI category, but in case you were wondering…

The SAT now has a possible score of 600-2400... Its not like it was back in the ol' days when we took them... They added a third section back in 2005.

So 1530... is that really that good now?

I'm still having difficulty believing their the average SAT score for admissions is 1530. Really? Seriously? Well….there's no way we're gonna outsmart 'em. I'm plan to start drinking early for this one. Maybe play a version of the Tim Tebow game.

Hmm...  I guess I forgive both. First the ignorant students at FGCU for being inferior. They can't help it. We all know how it must be difficult living in UF's shadow.
And, I forgive Urban for going to OSU. I hear it's his "dream job."  After all, he's rooting for Billy.

Members of The Gator Nation haven't always shown the best manners when trash-talking rivals.
Mindful of that, University of Florida officials are taking a forgiving view of the expletives inserted at a recent pep rally Florida Gulf Coast University sponsored for its basketball team.
"We certainly understand when students get excited and enthusiastic, but they've apologized, and as far as we're concerned it's over," Steve Orlando, senior director of media relations at UF, said today. "We're just looking forward to a great game in Arlington (Texas) on Friday."
The third-seeded Gators will face off against the 15th-seeded Eagles, which rode to stunning victories over Georgetown and seventh-seeded San Diego State to get into the Elite Eight and a shot at the Gators in the Sweet Sixteen.
At Tuesday's pep rally in Fort Myers, students chanted "(Expletive) the Florida Gators." ESPN happened to catch the chant and broadcast it live.
The FGCU student body today issued the following apology for the "negative reaction yesterday during our pep rally":
"In no manner do the words that were passed yesterday reflect upon this institution of higher education. Oftentimes, excitement and a new experience can cause rash and hasty decisions to be made. In this moment of excitement for our young school, we hope that you will accept our expression of regret. With that being said, we are definitely looking forward to some healthy competition in Arlington, this Friday."

Former Florida coach Urban Meyer has plenty of rooting interests in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16. He coached at Florida, coaches at Ohio State and his daughter Gigi is a setter for the Florida Gulf Coast volleyball team.
Gigi said recently that her father is rooting for FGCU this weekend, but Meyer told The Sun this weekend that he'll be pulling for Billy Donovan's Florida team.
"Always a Gator," Meyer said. "Billy's my friend. That was Camelot the year I went to Indianapolis (2006) and they won it."
