Virtually all of the offense is back, including quarterback Aaron Murray, the only quarterback in SEC history to throw for more than 3,000 yards in three consecutive seasons.

Kind of true.

The only year Shane failed to reach it was 1990.

In 1990, there was no SEC Championship game and we were not eligible for a bowl game.

Despite that, Shane managed 2,952 yards.

Shane Matthews:

Year Reg Seas SEC Champ Bowl Game

1990 2952 none ineligible
1991 3130 370 (did not count)
1992 3205 247 (did not count)

In 2010, Murray had 3049 yards, and 3149 in 2011.

Georgia played 13 games in 2010, with Murray getting credit for 198 yards passing in the Liberty Bowl (recall that bowl games did not count in the stats back in the day).

Georgia played 14 games in 2011, with Murray having 163 yards in the SEC Championship Game and 288 in the Outback Bowl.

Take away any of Murray's extra games and he would have failed to meet the threshold in either of his first two seasons.
