Florida Gulf Coast University seems to have come out of nowhere to land in the Sweet 16 against Florida. Here are 10 things you might not have known about FGCU:

1. Florida has Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, but FGCU has Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, the main drag that runs to the campus off I-75.

2. Florida's campus is 265 miles from Florida Gulf Coast's, and the trip down I-75 is the closest you'll come to driving in the Daytona 500.

3. FGCU has a club hockey team that plays in Division II. That team had to forfeit games, dismiss some players and is on probation for giving too many tuition waivers.

4. There are signs on the campus at FGCU warning students to watch out for alligators and explaining why it's a bad idea to feed them.

5. The most famous alumnus of the school? Since it hasn't been around long, they're hard to find. The most famous would probably be Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale.

6. Each year the Student Government at the school hosts Eaglepalooza in downtown Fort Myers, which has included acts such as LMFAO and Busta Rhymes.

7. By the time the school opened in August of 1997, Billy Donovan was getting ready for his second season as Florida's coach.

8. Students at FGCU can earn a masters degree in crime scene and death investigations. Can't you see it — CSI Fort Myers?

9. Downtown Fort Myers was used in a scene showing an abandoned city in the 1985 movie "Day of the Dead."

10. The school's colors are emerald green and cobalt blue. They were chosen by founding president Roy McTarnaghan in keeping with FGCU's environmental mission.
