Re: [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews]Florida Gulf Coast¹s Sweet ride comes to an end, but team remains proud, Palm Beach Post and Miami Herald, courtesy of JunoGator

My thoughts on Young is really the same as the whole team, they are mentally weak.  I know that sounds harsh, but throughout the year we have had many let downs in games.  Certainly the Arizona, Missouri, Ole Miss and Kentucky losses, but also in several of our wins.  We have a problem of maintaining intensity throughout 40 minutes.

This team is so good though, that they overcome it most of the time, and sometimes it is only a player or two that checks out.  Often that player is Young,Mobutu recently we have seen it with Rosario as well.  Murphy hasn't looked good in the past couple, but he has been sick.  When we put it all together, like in the Marquette game or the first Mizzou game, I don't think anyone can beat us.

Billy needs to get in Patricks ear and let him know, the time is now, because he needs to Be On, so Michigan can Be Off!

Ken,

Great thoughts!  I hope you are correct.  I also hope that Murphy is over his flu.  We need him and Young to be in top form.

I could not figure out last night why Murphy was so ssslllooowwww last night.  Many (most?)  of the dunks were from his man getting loose.

I have been a little disappointed in how Young has been playing the last several games.  He has not dominated like he did earlier.  I am not sure if it is because Murphy and/or Rosario has taken a more prominent role or if he has just had some trouble keeping up his intensity.

Any thoughts about Young?

Jerry

Two quotes from this article that to me are telling why FtGCU lost.  First, no better way to go out?  I agree they should be proud, but really, a win might have been better.

And second, I noticed this in the interviews this week week with the band of merry men, Sherwood is a me player.  They helped ME achieve a goal...no, you helped the team reach a goal, it isn't yours it is the teams.

Even when they started hot, I wasn't concerned, they weren't scoring at a torrid pace, we just weren't scoring at all.  If we had been able to make layups early, it would have been over from the start.

Their coach Enfield is all the rage, heard his name in the mix for the MN job.  I personally don't think he is all that great.  He obviously did nothing to prepare for the Gators, he just figured if   their game, they win.  They made no offensive adjustments for our tenacious D.

And finally, we get to remove another Big CC team from the tourney.  This game will be tight, but we should win.  Mich has not seen a D like Florida's and their bench is very short.  Here's how I would like to see us match up n them:

Burke G - Wilbekin.  Burke is 6', so I think Scotty can match up well, won't give him the space to make his threes.  Burke is a great shooter, like Henderson, so will get his points, the key is to challenge everything and keep his percentage low and assist to turnovers low. Boynton and Frazier will be able to Match up well here.

The other two Michigan guards are more of a challenge as they are 6'6"

Hardaway Jr. G - Boynton will be key, but Rosario might be the better option and I would like to see Prather get in the mix here as well.

Stauskas G - Rosario with Boynton and Frazier in the mix.  Depending on Billy's confidence in Frazier at 6'4" he could be a great matchup.

Robinson III F - Murphy.  GR III is only 6'6" too, so the matchup here is good.  Along with Prather and Yeguette, I don't think he will have a monster game.

McGary C - Young.  mcGary actually has size (6'10" to 6'9") and weight (250 to 249) on Young, but the build on Young is muscle and if he decides to play... He will be able to dominate.

The big difference is in the bench, we have Frazier, Yeguette and Prather off the bench, they really only play Morgan and sometimes Horford.  I think their starters all played at least 37 minutes (of 45) last night, Burke had something like 42!  Also, it is clear why Billy didn't go after the younger Horford as hard as some thought, he is not Al.

Good hard fought game, Gators win with tough defense and monster game from Young 69-58.

Happy Easter y'all,
