You can also look at this year's recruiting this way - taking the top 100 national recruits from the 247 Composite:

UF 4
FSU 7
UM 1

Expand to the Top 150 nationwide:
UF 5
FSU 8
UM 2

Going back to the common discussion that this wasn't a top year for Florida HS recruits, is it really so bad that Miami had more "local" talent, if the talent is theoretically not as good?

So, in state, the IMG effect did not really produce that much of a difference.  FSU cleaned up last year, and Miami cleaned up this year.  We recruited better than an out-of-state school, but not nearly as well as a school the stature of Florida should have.

But there were 10 players in the top 50 from IMG and none went to Florida.

That, in essence, removes 20% of the list from consideration.

If we compare McElwain's recruiting to that of prior UF coaches, and look at the % of top in-state talent that went to UF, it is misleading because 20% of those recruits aren't truly Florida players. They went to Notre Dame, Va. Tech, OSU, LSU, UGa; schools that they had ties to before they spent one or two years at IMG.
