Re: [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] [SUN]: Jeff Driskel confirms he's transferring from UF

He's a competitor, go course he still thinks he has a shot.  We saw some brilliance out of Jeff before he broke his leg, I think he has a chance (small).

He probably figures it is best for him to transfer as he was going to learn his 4th play book in any case.  The team dynamics probably aren't the greatest for his success here, so he moves on to try and resurrect his career somewhere else.

I am a but surprised he is going to La Tech.  I figured he would go to a bit more prestigious school to finish his grad work, as I understand he already had some job offers lined up in the business world.  I thought an early rumor was Duke and that would have made more sense to me.

Wish Jeff all the best in the world, he handled this season with an amazing amount of class for a young man.

So what does Driskel gain by transferring? Does he think he has a realistic shot at the NFL?

Former Florida starting quarterback Jeff Driskel confirmed Monday morning that he is transferring to Louisiana Tech for the final year of his college career.

"I look forward to the upcoming chapter of my life," Driskel said on the school's website. "I feel like this is the best option for me moving forward with my career. I have nothing but good things to say about the University of Florida and the football program there.

"I am grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to me over the course of the last four years. Although things did not play out on the field as I would have liked, I have no regrets on the choice I made to attend UF.

"Again, I appreciate everything that my coaches, teammates, strength coaches, athletic trainers, equipment staff, academic staff, fans and the University of Florida have done for me."

Driskel has already received his UF degree and will be eligible next season under the NCAA's graduate transfer rule. At Louisiana Tech, he will be playing for Skip Holtz and on a team that went 9-4 this season.

Driskel lost his starting job for the Gators after a one-sided homecoming loss to Missouri. He came off the bench and replaced the injured Treon Harris in Saturday's Birmingham Bowl. Driskel converted a critical third-down with a 9-yard run that allowed the Gators to run out the clock in their 28-20 victory over East Carolina.

Driskel missed most of last season after sustaining a broken lower leg against Tennessee in UF's third game. He played for three different offensive coordinators during his four years at UF — Charlie Weis, Brent Pease and Kurt Roper.

He leaves after completing 59 percent of his passes for 3,411 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also threw 20 interceptions. Driskel added 644 yards and nine TDs rushing.
