Re: [gatortalk] Uhhh. Ouch. Scar 40 Gators 17 at the half

I'm sure you're correct, Charlie.
Sandy is also correct. The South Carolina girls made ours look smaller.

I guess I shouldn't be down on her, but it just wasn't fun to watch last night.  She did have a good recruiting class. That helps.
She's had good classes before and several transferred out.
Just show improvement. That's all Foley says he wants.

It's true about the game and perhaps even Coach Butler, but the Gators were projected as last in the SEC (or near it) for this year, and those South Carolina women were as tall as most of our men's team (I believe they have four players 6' 4" or taller).  That dramatic difference in talent was going to result in a very dreadful game.

I watched the whole thing because I wanted to see what Carol Ross had to say, just to see if I could glean anything about our program based on her comments.  Of course she might have been gentler on Butler since she coached her, but she commended the effort of the players in spite of being trampled (which would reflect on coaching) and said the result of the game was more about talent than effort.

I think the quandary is what coach out there - that UF could lure - who would in turn convince quality players to come to UF and not leave to play for a Dawn Staley at SCar or the renown programs at UConn, UTn, etc.?  Butler has a highly-decorated WNBA player on staff in Gator Great Murriel Page and other than pulling the program's first McDonald's All-American in Ronni Williams - and actually a pretty decent recruiting class this past year, they just can't get the players that can change this team.  I suppose at some point Foley will have to give up on Butler, but she did get the team to the 2nd round of the tournament last year, and she's a Gator through and through, so he may be giving her more slack than most.

What a terrible showing.

I couldn't watch after about 2 minutes into the second half.

We lost by 30+.  If I were Amanda Butler I would have hated to do the post-game.

She just isn't making it.
