[gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] [SUN]: UF to hire offensive-minded coach

Jim McElwain fits the criteria.

There are turnarounds, and then there are complete transformations. What Jim McElwain has done in two seasons as head coach at Colorado State easily surpasses the confines of a turnaround. His impact on the program has not only brought wins, but has transformed every aspect of the way his student-athletes approach each day, both on and off the field.

McElwain, a 29-year coaching veteran, became the 20th head football coach in Colorado State program history on Dec. 13, 2011. He spent the 2008-11 seasons as offensive coordinator at Alabama, where he played a key role in leading the Crimson Tide to two BCS national championships (2009 and '11).

Under McElwain's guidance the 2013 CSU Rams won eight games--the school's most in 12 seasons--and finished with a victory in the New Mexico Bowl over Pac-12 foe Washington State. As monumental as it was to win the school's first bowl game since 2008, it was the way the Rams won, scoring 18 points in the game's final three minutes for a 48-45 victory, that epitomized everything McElwain has worked to instill in his team since his arrival in Fort Collins: To adapt, to overcome, to handle chaos and to never give up.

After suffering (and yawning) through four years of low-scoring games and offensive struggles under Will Muschamp, Florida fans are going to get what they want — a head football coach whose expertise is on offense.

That was the word from Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley during a news conference Monday, the day after Muschamp was fired following a second consecutive embarrassing loss in The Swamp.
"We may not have had the results the last couple of weeks in The Swamp that we all wanted," Foley said. "I've been on the field and I've seen how hard those fans have worked to try and make us successful. It's an amazing place. I absolutely want to make this right for them, for this football program and this university.
"We'd obviously like an individual that's been successful on the offensive side of the ball. Obviously, that's what Gator Nation wants. We see that. And that's what we're going to provide for them. Make sure it's a fit for the University of Florida.
"What does that mean? This is not a place for everybody. Not everybody fits in here. As we go through the process (of hiring a new coach), we want to make sure he does fit in here."
Along with being an offensive guy, the Gators' next coach also will have to have "high integrity and high character," Foley said.
Foley said he would begin his search for a new coach Monday afternoon. Contrary to rumors and speculation already making their way across Twitter and other social media, Foley said he has not talked to any candidates yet.
