Florida basketball player Walker suspended 3 games

Florida sophomore forward Chris Walker will sit out the first three games of the basketball season for violation of team rules, Florida coach Billy Donovan confirmed Wednesday.

In addition, Donovan said at Florida basketball media day that freshman guard Brandone Francis will sit out the entire season because he "needs to prove himself academically."

Donovan said Walker's suspension will include UF's exhibition game Nov. 6 against Barry and the first two regular-season games against William & Mary and Miami. The 6-foot-10 former McDonald's All-American will return for UF's game Nov. 21 against Louisiana-Monroe.

Donovan said he expects the 2014-15 Gators to be an improved team shooting and passing, but has a long way to go to match the "defensive nastiness" that propelled UF to its fifth Final Four appearance in school history last season.
