9 …  Interceptions thrown by John Reaves in 1969 against Auburn.
When he was on the staff at Florida, Reaves would get the occasional needle from head coach Steve Spurrier.
"That's a record that will never be broken, Johnny," Spurrier would say.
It's difficult to believe it ever will be. Why would a coach leave a quarterback in a game with eight interceptions? Seven? Six?
But Reaves kept plugging away on that day on the plains. He threw 66 passes in the game, as Florida tried to battle from behind and keep a perfect season going. But three of them went to linebacker Sonny Ferguson. Linebacker Bobby Strickland and defensive backs Larry Willingham and Buddy McLinton had a pair each.
Auburn ended up winning the game 38-12. Florida had entered the game with a 6-0 record and the Super Sophs were creating a buzz around the country. The following week, Florida tied Georgia before finishing with three straight wins and a 9-1-1 record.
Obviously, Reaves' nine interceptions are an NCAA record. He went on to become the all-time passing leader in NCAA history after his senior season (which has since been surpassed) and spent 14 years in the NFL and USFL before turning to coaching.
He never threw nine interceptions in a game again.
