I did that a few years ago, from Virginia, on my 50th birthday (happened to be on a game day). It was nice, because I hadn't been back to Gainesville in a couple of decades, but between flights, hotel, rental car, etc., it was way too expensive to do very often.
What I am considering instead, is going sometime when they play away at either Tennessee or South Carolina. Both are reasonable car trips and it shouldn't be too hard to get a ticket, especially at UT.
(That's why I was hoping VaTech was going to join the SEC a few years ago when all those expansion rumors were flying. That would be a day trip.)
