39 … Danny Wuerffel touchdown passes in 1996.

It was a perfect match — Steve Spurrier's offensive genius and Wuerffel's ability to understand it.

In 1995, Wuerffel set the record for touchdown passes in a year with 35. The following year, he beat it with 39, the most ever for a Florida quarterback.

Wuerffel had the record for most touchdown passes in a single season until the NCAA began including bowl games in the totals. Andre Woodson of Kentucky threw 40 touchdown passes in 2007. (Wuerffel threw three touchdown passes in his last bowl game, the 1997 Sugar Bowl).

Aaron Murray of Georgia broke Wuerffel's career record of 114 with 121 touchdown passes during his run.

Still, Wuerffel's 1996 season was good enough to win him the Heisman Trophy and Florida won the national title.

He currently has the Florida record for touchdown passes by a freshman, a junior and a senior.
