Of course he was drunk and feeling studly. That's why he lost control and hit the guy. My question is, why, in his uninhibited state of mind, was he surprised and angered that he didn't get a discount for being a football player? The simplest explanation is that he is used to getting a discount.

The subtext is that he expected to get a discount for being a football player and was angered that he didn't. Why would he have the idea he was entitled to that if it weren't common for clubs in G'ville to give discounts to players?
