RE: [gatortalk] Are UF fans tougher on their coaches than other schools?

The goal is always to get to Atlanta.

But, the absolute measure of success to win a national championship or nothing?

That's different.

Yes, we had high expectations with Spurrier.

But, not unrealistic expectations. That's crazy.

He created that atmosphere though Oliver. He really did. He literally told the SCar fans that they shouldn't be happy with the record they had one year because the expectation should be to get to Atlanta. You can set that up and then complain.

Again.. doesnt excuse some fans behavior.

I have to say, the reason Steve Spurrier even looked at the NFL was because coaching at Florida was no longer fun.
His last season, we lost 1 game and beat Maryland in the Orange Bowl.
He said that was considered a down year by most.
That is fan insanity!

Charlie,

Not directed at you, but the premise that fans 'run off' coaches is absurd.

SOS left because he wanted to give the NFL a try.  I would argue the timing of his departure is more closely linked to his perceived lack of support from the administration and not the fans.
Urban left because he had health issues, tried to take a step back but couldn't.  No ill will towards the man, I didn't like that he came back a year later, but can't fault him for getting his health under control.
Mac is still here.

What I find interesting is the narrative that we only run off good coaches - do we as fans not get credit for Zook and Muscrap?  😊

While I'm sure Mac hears the noise in the system, the decision to retain him or not will be made by a very select group of people (i.e. money people).  While I have no inside information, the few big time boosters I am acquainted with like Mac and believe the next two years will be great.  I am not entirely sold yet, but coming into this season, most were predicting a 7-5 or 8-4 type of season and that is the path we are heading down.

Beat Georgia and all will be right in the Gator Nation, in fact, all will be right in the world!

Ken

Supposedly we ran off Spurrier, ran off Meyer and are about to run off McElwain. Are we any different than any other big time program with our treatment of coaches. I've always thought no it's no different here than at Auburn, Texas, Michigan etc.
