That's too bad. I think they were counting on him for some quality minutes. It does sound like his status wouldn't change at any other school so he probably won't transfer.

Incoming freshman center Gorjok Gak was cleared to enroll at Florida, but will not be eligible to compete in games until 2017-18, the school announced Tuesday.
Gak's coach at Victory Rock Prep, Loren Jackson, said the eligibility issue was related to the 6-foot-11 center playing games in his postgraduate year during the spring.
"Following his graduate year from Australia, he was supposed to play from December to December but instead played from December until the following May," Jackson said.
Gak, 19, will be allowed to take part in practices and basketball related activities outside of games as a freshman, but won't be able to compete until his sophomore season and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. Jackson said he thinks there's a chance Florida will be able to petition the NCAA to get the year of eligibility back.
It's not unprecedented. In 1993, former Miami center Constantin Popa lost a year of eligibility due to playing at Fork Union Military Academy past his 20th birthday, but the school was successfully able to petition to grant him his senior year.
A borderline three/four-star recruit and Australian native, the 205-pound Gak averaged 13.8 points and 9.4 pounds rebounds last season for Victory Rock Prep School in Bradenton. Gak is due to enroll at UF in the fall semester.
