[gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] [SUN]: $1 million buyout part of White's contract

I guess I'm a little dense this morning but is White getting 2 mil a year for 6 years or 2 mil over 6 years?

White's contract, obtained through an open records request, pays the coach an average salary of $2 million over the length of the deal

Mike White's contract features performance bonuses identical to what former Gators coach Billy Donovan had. They include $50,000 for an SEC regular season title and $25,000 for an SEC tournament title. There's a $37,500 bonus for reaching the NCAA Tournament that increases to $75,000 for reaching the Sweet 16/Elite Eight, $100,000 for reaching the Final Four and $150,000 for winning an NCAA championship.

Florida men's basketball coach Mike White's six-year contract includes a $1 million buyout and performance bonuses similar to former coach Billy Donovan.

White's contract, obtained through an open records request, pays the coach an average salary of $2 million over the length of the deal. But his buyout is twice the amount of Donovan's, who paid $500,000 for leaving the Gators for the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder in May of 2015.

Under terms of White's buyout, the second-year coach has a window from March 15 to April 15 (or seven days after UF's final postseason game) to notify the school that he's leaving for another job. From that point, White would have 60 days to pay the buyout. Proceeds from the buyout would go toward compensating any assistant coaches left unemployed and other costs and expenses associated with the transition to a new head men's basketball coach.

White's performance bonuses are identical to Donovan's.

In addition, White has longevity bonuses of $375,000 if he stays past April 15, 2017, $400,000 if he stays past April 15, 2018, $425,000 if he stays past April 15, 2019, $450,000 if he stays past April 15, 2020 and $500,000 if he stays past April 15, 2021.

If White is fired by Florida without cause, he would be entitled to a buyout of $1.25 million multiplied by the number of seasons that remained on his contact at the time.

Other perks of White's contract include a $60,000 annual expense account, a $40,000 personal travel allowance on university aircraft, 12 tickets for UF men's basketball games and two dealer cars provided by the University Athletic Association.

White led Florida to a 21-15 record and an NIT appearance in his first season. UF's season ended with an 82-77 loss at George Washington in the NIT quarterfinals.

As for the salaries of White's staff, Florida assistant coach Dusty May made $340,000 during the 2015-16 season, while assistant Jordan Mincy made $185,000 and assistant Darris Nichols made $165,000. All three assistants are in the process of getting their contracts renewed for next season.
