Re: [gatortalk] Game 1 observations

My second paragraph above should have read: "the Gators had failed to stop LSU on 3th down."

"That was very frustrating. Third down is our money down,'' Gators safety Cody Riggs said. "We take pride in getting off the field in those situations."

This quote, regarding the many times the Gators had failed to stop LSU on 4th down, appeared in an article published in October, 2013  on the website Gatorzone.com. So, the concept of the "money down" has been used by the team for at least 2 years. What is new is the use of graphic signs held up and waved on the sidelines. I'll research their use further.

It was good to be back in the Swamp and Paula and I enjoyed sitting with Helen and Chris.

The mood of the crowd was very upbeat anticipating kickoff; unlike last season.

I noticed on 3rd down and our D on the field, there's at least two posters (one orange, one blue) with the dollar ($) sign that is held up.  They keep calling it the "money down" so I don't know if there's an actual signal attributable to the dollar signs, or if it's just a reminder.

Leon was sitting next to me and he said someone must be giving a separate signal that tells players which of the four pictures displayed on the poster they are supposed to pay attention to. It seems like that would be awfully complicated for players, but since there were no delay of game or false starts, I guess they got it fine.
