I nearly regretted telling my wife, Leslie, that it was very unlikely for FSU to score three goals in the last 20 minutes.

This was a great game! Started out 3-0 UF. Got a little tense in the second half.

Florida State's only loss in 2014 came at the hands of the rival Gators in Tallahassee in a season that ended with a national championship. At James G. Pressly Stadium on Sunday, the top-ranked Seminoles got bit again.
What looked to be a surprising blowout for No. 14 Florida in the first half turned into a thrilling 3-2 home-opening win over defending NCAA soccer champion Florida State (3-1).
The Seminoles seemed to come out flat, failing to create many chances for the majority of the first half. Florida (3-1), on the other hand, brought the action to the Seminoles.
In the 18th minute, Savannah Jordan opened up the Seminole defense, scoring her team-high fifth goal of the season. Less than four minutes later, Sarah Troccoli headed home a perfect corner kick from Christen Westphal to give Florida a quick 2-0 lead.
Just before the half in the 43rd minute, a Pamela Begic penalty kick gave the Gators a 3-0 lead.
"They're always known for their defense," Jordan said of the Seminoles. "They're a great defensive team, and for our team to score three goals today, I think that's awesome."
In the second half, the Seminoles became less stagnant and started to create more opportunities, netting two goals between the 75th and 80th minute to put Florida on its heels. Over the last 10 minutes of the match, the Gators were able to dig those heels in and keep a suddenly aggressive FSU team from drawing level, ending the 'Noles 24-match unbeaten streak.
"Somebody asked me earlier in the week what's the best way to beat Florida State, and I said 'Play ahead of them,'" Florida coach Becky Burleigh said. "Normally they don't give up goals … so that obviously gave us an opportunity to be ourselves a little bit more, relax and make them kind of force the issue a little bit."
Florida will next play host to Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Friday.
