Re: [gatortalk] Fwd: [gatornews] [SUN]: Florida pulls away from FSU

Yep, would've been a good beer drinking/watching game. With Pabst Blue Ribbon, of course.

This was a purely enjoyable game. One of the advantages of having the SEC Network.

The No. 2 Florida baseball team proved to be too much for No. 13 Florida State on Tuesday.

FSU tied the game in the fifth, but the Gators (19-3, 2-1) regained the lead later that inning and never lost it in their 14-8 win in front of 5,827, the fifth largest crowd McKethan Stadium has held.

"I thought offensively we were really good tonight," UF coach Kevin O'Sullivan said. "We got 16 hits and nine of the 16 were by the freshmen, so to play (that well) in this game for the first time is really, really good.

"We were sloppy on the mound, that was not one of our best efforts. But to not make a single error in a four-hour game is pretty impressive."

The Seminoles (17-5, 5-1) took a 2-0 lead to start the game and UF responded with a five-run first inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Jeremy Vasquez and a triple by Harrison Bader, who extended his hit streak to 11 games. An RBI groundout by Bader put the Gators ahead 6-2 in the second.

FSU caught fire in the third, scoring three runs as UF made its first of six pitching changes on the night. Florida's Richie Martin stole home the following inning, bringing the score to 7-5.

Then things got eventful in the fifth. Florida State tied the game on a double steal, but the Gators scored three runs in the bottom of the inning with another Vasquez double, a costly error by FSU third baseman Dylan Busby and a sac fly from Bader that also produced some trash talk with FSU's dugout.

"When they started getting some momentum, we were able to roll into our dugout and kind of fight back and create our own momentum," Bader said. "It was definitely huge for us. That helped us tonight."

Florida added a run in the sixth on a Ryan Larson single, and a three-run homer by JJ Schwarz in the seventh put the game out of reach for FSU.

"It was really important to get those runs," Schwarz said. "They're a good team and we played really good defense, so I knew if we had that much cushion we were going to be fine."

Up next for Florida is a three-game road series against Ole Miss. The two teams play Friday night at 7:30 on SEC Network.
