GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida has begun its first spring practice, with the team hitting the fields under the direction of new coach Jim McElwainaround 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
Media were allowed to view the stretch period and the first two sessions of the practice, and GatorBait.net provides some brief updates from our first glimpse at the new Gators.
Early Offensive Line Groupings
Florida's offensive line will likely be a work in progress early in spring practice, but the first-team unit from left to right in walk-through work was David Sharpe, Antonio Riles, Cameron Dillard, Andrew Mike and Roderick Johnson.
On the second-team unit, Travaris Dorsey was working at right guard, while Kavaris Harkless was working at right tackle.
Several Number Changes
A handful of players have changed numbers this spring. Of ones we saw:
#4 RB Brandon Powell (from #20)
#6 CB Quincy Wilson (from #26)
#25 LB Matt Rolin (from #9)
#31 CB Quincy Wilson (from #5)Initial Impressions of the Early Enrollees
Florida only has two early enrollees, so finding them wasn't particular hard. Both stand out physically at their position, with tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe arguably one of the most physically impressive players at practice.
He has terrific size and looked very fluid in a drill with quarterbacks throwing the route tree against air, making several nice catches away from his body and showing good feet.
Jackson is much more wiry, with a thin frame, and he had some nerves early on, dropping a simple bubble screen against air.
Other Notes
-- The quarterbacks only did very light warmup work, throwing through the route tree a bit in the second session of the practice. Will Grier and Skyler Mornhinweg took the reps with the first-team offensive line unit in walk-through work, while Treon Harrisrepped with the second-team unit.
-- None of the quarterbacks were particularly sharp throwing against air in the one session the media was able to view, with a number of passes off-target.
-- The first-team defensive line appeared to be Jonathan Bullard, Joey Ivie, Taven Bryan and Alex McCalister.
-- Several injured players were working out on the west sideline, with Jarrad Davis sporting a wrap on his left knee. Byran Cox Jr., Matt Rolin, Mark Herndon and Trip Thurman all worked with the injured group.
