Funny you should mention Spurrier and WR coaching. I had mentioned on Twitter to Adam Silverstein of Only Gators it was believed that Spurrier really did the WR coaching and not Dwayne Dixon. I was surmising that maybe Mac was going to do the same thing. I was quickly corrected by someone who should know about WR coaching at that time: Jacquez Green.
I think perhaps since SOS was the OC as well as HC he probably did have a lot of input into the routes they would run and how he wanted them ran, especially since there was so much timing involved in his passing game. But from the twitter conversation between Quez, Adam Silverstein, and me, Quez made it very clear that DD was important to the development of the WR corps when he was here. Zero WR coaching experience and barely any WR playing experience, and given how long it has taken to name him, I am pretty sure this is not the coach he was thinking of several weeks ago with whom we would all be so happy.
Maybe Mac does coach them himself and bring this guy along, but wouldn't an experienced WR coach still be a better fit than someone who needs OJT? Nothing personal, since I know nothing about him, but this is the first of Coach Mac's hires that I am disappointed in... and it's the area in which we probably need the most improvement.
