Recruiting and quality of play are the two biggest concerns. Why don't the other SEC schools have lacrosse?  Never mind, I know the answer.  Vanderbilt needs to add softball too.
You are correct. Scheduling out of conference games will solve a lot. We could play the FSU team...  Oh, wait. They can't afford lacrosse. : )

Well, the ALC was a grouping of schools whose conferences didn't support Women's Lacrosse.  Those teams were: UF, Johns Hopkins, Michigan, Ohio State, Northwestern, Penn State, and Vandy.  I guess the Big 10 is now supporting Women's Lacrosse, so Michigan, Ohio State, Northwestern, and Penn State all moved to their logical conference and are taking Maryland with them now that MD as a whole is moving to the Big 10.  Hopkins chose to remain independent.  Louisville took Maryland's place in the ACC, so I don't think there was room for UF and/or Vandy there, and I couldn't see UF competing in the Big 10.  I guess the choices were Big East or independent like Hopkins. I would also surmise that UF and Vandy would want to go to the same conference just for a natural rivalry.

I'm a little disappointed as the competition in the Big East doesn't appear to be as good as the new Big 10 or the ACC.  Hopefully schedules would allow for good out-of-conference matchups however.  Coach Mandy sells and delivers a great program that quality players want to participate in, so maybe this won't have any effect on recruiting.

Big East looks like it will be a lot easier than the ALC to win championships in.

Their big dog, Louisville is leaving for the ACC.

I see Vanderbilt is joining us too.

What were the choices besides Big East?

It's going to be really strange having Big East Conference trophies and Championships.

The Florida lacrosse team will join the Big East conference starting next season, the school announced Thursday.

The move comes after the dissolution of the American Lacrosse Conference, where the Gators have competed the past five years.

"We're very excited for this next step for Florida lacrosse," UF coach Amanda O'Leary said. "We enjoyed the high level of competition in the ALC, and are looking forward to the new challenges the Big East will provide.

"We've built a legacy of success during our first five years and that's something we look to continue while competing in the Big East."

Vanderbilt is also making the move to the Big East from the ALC, keeping the rivalry intact for Florida. The conference includes Cincinnati, Connecticut, Georgetown, Marquette, Temple and Villanova.

"Both programs (UF and Vandy) have proven histories of success and will reinforce the strength and high level of play Big East women's lacrosse is known for," said Chris Schneider, Big East Associate Commissioner for Olympic Sports.

The Gators finished the 2014 season with an 18-3 record after falling to Northwestern in the NCAA quarterfinals. Florida swept the ALC regular season and tournament titles that helped the Gators earn a No. 4 seed for the NCAA tournament.

The Gators have a 5-1 record against teams in the current alignment of the Big East. Louisville, which leaves the league for the ACC in 2015, swept the Big East regular season and tournament titles in 2014.
