Re: [gatortalk] FW: [gatornews] Mike Bianchi

No just retracted that it was Muschamp that forced him out.

The ESPN reporter later reported he had been mistaken regarding recruiting violations.  Right?

Bianchi: Joker Phillips' "resignation" amid recruiting allegations another blow to Muschamp's beleaguered Gators

 Orlando Sentinel

·

Florida Gators coach Will Muschamp not only is inexplicably losing too many games, but he's mysteriously losing too many recruiiting coordinators, too.

UF wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator Joker Phillips shocking "resignation" Wednesday is yet another major blow to Muschamp's program.

Phillips released a statement through UF saying he was was resigning for "personal reasons." This is traditionally coachspeak for "I've been fired for doing something I shouldn't have been doing." I have been covering college football for a long time and I've found that assistant coaches almost never voluntarily resign their $500,000-a-year jobs.

It was almost exactly two years ago when Aubrey Hill, another UF wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator, resigned for "personal reasons" after he was tied to recruiting violations when he was an assistant coach the University of Miami.

Although UF didn't give a reason for Phillips' resignation, ESPN has reported that he may have committed recruiting violations. This wouldn't be surprising consider Phillips is known as an aggressive recruiter who is not afraid to push the envelope.

If it comes out that Muschamp's program has committed NCAA violations, this would be yet another strike against the embattled coach who is fighting for his job after an historically bad 4-8 season.

When it comes to football in the SEC, fans will put up with a little bit of cheating as long as their team is doing a bunch of winning.

When the program is losing games to Georgia Southern and firing assistants amid reports of recruiting  violations, it usually means the head coach is on the fast track to the unemployment line.
