We are very thankful for Coach Young's contributions to the program and I respect his decision. This is strictly a personal decision and has nothing to do with NCAA compliance.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Life as a college football coach and father of six is a challenge, one Gators defensive line coach Bryant Young has decided to take a break from.

In a team meeting Wednesday afternoon, Young informed the Gators that he was resigning for non-football reasons.

"After heavy consideration and giving over two decades to the game of football, I have made a personal decision to resign from my position at the University of Florida in order to pursue more time with my family." Young said.

A former NFL All-Pro defensive tackle who spent his entire 14-year career with the San Francisco 49ers, Young joined Florida coach Will Muschamp's inaugural staff in January 2011. His primary job was defensive tackles coach.

Young's move to Florida reunited him with his former position coach in San Francisco, then-Gators defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Quinn recently returned to the NFL to become defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks.

"We are very thankful for Coach Young's contributions to the program and I respect his decision. This is strictly a personal decision and has nothing to do with NCAA compliance, but just an opportunity to evaluate his future path," Muschamp said. "I always have, and will continue to be very supportive of Coach Young and his family. Our entire staff will be there for him to provide any assistance and guidance in the future. We wish he and his family nothing but the best."

Young starred at Notre Dame prior to his NFL career and began his coaching career in 2009 as a graduate assistant on Charlie Weis' staff at Notre Dame. He spent the 2010 season as defensive line coach at San Jose State and then moved across country with his family for the Florida job.

Young is now ready for some time away.

"I am humbled by and grateful for the opportunity I have had to positively influence the hardworking student-athletes and young men whom I will surely miss," Young said. "However, I have come to the realization that it is time to invest more in my family during this fleeting season in life.

"I have truly loved my time being a Gator, enjoyed a great working relationship with Coach Muschamp and will also miss the dedicated staff at this University.
