Re: [gatortalk] RE: [gatornews] BizJournals.com: SEC, ESPN To Announce Creation Of Conference TV Channel

But, they probably my wished they did. Atlanta can at least claim former SEC team Georgia Tech.

LOL! I really have no opinion on an SEC channel, but I found it interesting that neither Charlotte nor Atlanta have any SEC “roots”.

The Southeastern Conference and ESPN plan to formally announce in Atlanta the creation of an SEC channel on April 16, according to Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness, a sister publication of Atlanta Business Chronicle.

The two parties have begun to reach out to key constituents to let them know about the 12 p.m. announcement at the Atlanta Hyatt. University presidents, athletic directors, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, ESPN execs and the conference’s corporate sponsors are among those being invited to the news conference.

The channel is expected to have its studio headquarters in Charlotte, N.C., at the ESPN Regional Television offices, while the primary sales outlet will be based in Atlanta.

The SEC and ESPN have been working on plans to form a channel since the fall 2011, and the new channel is expected to launch in August 2014.

Sister pub the Birmingham Business Journal recently spoke with ESPN Executive Chairman George Bodenheimer about the trend of college conferences creating their own channels and about his company's growing relationship with the SEC. Click here to see what he had to say.
