STARKVILLE, Miss. — The third-seeded and second-ranked Florida women's tennis team defeated top-seeded and third-ranked Georgia, 4-0, and won the 2013 Southeastern Conference tournament championship on Sunday afternoon at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

Not only was this the Gator's 19th SEC championship in the 26-year history of the league's postseason event, but it marked the 16th time Florida has won both the regular-season and tournament titles in the same season.

The Gators (22-2) captured the doubles point in thrilling fashion and then used singles victories from freshman Brianna Morgan, junior Alexandra Cercone and junior Olivia Janowicz to win their fourth consecutive SEC Tournament crown.

"We trained hard for this championship, to be able to play three grueling days in a row against competition like this. We played three top-20 teams, two top-four teams back-to-back. I was really proud of them," said UF head coach Roland Thornqvist, who has guided the Gators to eight SEC Tournament titles in his 11 years. "This championship means a great, great deal to us."

Florida's SEC Tournament run included a 4-1 win against No. 18 Vanderbilt on Friday, a 4-1 win versus No. 4 Texas A&M on Saturday, before Sunday's 4-0 shutout over third-ranked Georgia.

"We had to play two top-four teams to win it. I thought we were the fresher team today and that's all the credit to these guys for buying into the fitness we do. I love this team. We've lost a lot of doubles points this year but we never hang our heads. Of course, the doubles win today should give a lot of confidence that we can do it in the NCAA Tournament."

Florida earned the SEC's automatic berth into the NCAA Championships field of 64. The NCAA team selections will be announced on April 30 on NCAA.com, with the names individual singles and doubles participants revealed on May 1. First round and second round matches of the team competition will be held May 10-12 at 16 campus sites, with those locations also to be announced on April 30.

MEN'S GOLF: At St. Simons Island, Ga., Tyler McCumber tied for third place individually to lead the UF to a 10th place finish at the 2013 SEC Championship at the Sea Island Golf Club.

Florida registered a third-round score of 290 plus-10, tying Alabama for the lowest score of the field, and completed the event in 880 strokes plus-40. McCumber tallied three birdies against two bogeys en route to a final round 69 minus-1. He completed the tournament in 209 strokes minus-1, his best 54-hole score of the season.

Eric Banks was the team's second-lowest scorer on the final day at the par-72, 6,898 yard course. J.D. Tomlinson (Oak Hall) completed the final round in 74 strokes plus-4 and was 12-over par for the tournament.

T.J. Vogel and A.J. Crouch were the final competitors for the Gators. Vogel was six-over par on Sunday, while Crouch was eight-over.

WOMEN'S GOLF: At Birmingham, Ala., Mia Piccio fired a 76 plus-3 final round score at the 2013 SEC Championship, her best of the weekend, but fifth-ranked Florida could not rally and finished in 13th with a combined score of 88-over (952).

Alabama claimed the overall team title with a final combined score of 899 plus-35, while also taking home the individual title as Stephanie Meadow claimed the top spot at even par (216).

The top Gator of the weekend was Camilla Hedberg, who finished tied for 23rd at 16-over (232).
