Staver on Ramsey: "I feel strongly he'll end up at Florida"
by Zach Abolverdi (Gainesville SUN)
They say actions speak louder than words.
Jalen Ramsey, a five-star cornerback committed to USC, rarely does interviews.
His recent actions, however, speak volumes.
Ramsey offically visited Florida this past weekend with his teammate and UF quarterback commit Max Staver (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy). Then week prior, both were in attendance for Florida's 37-20 win at Tennessee.
They plan to return to Gainesville when the Gators host No. 3 LSU on Oct. 6.
Staver feels confident about Florida's chances with Tigers — and Ramsey.
"I think we're gonna beat LSU, I really do," Staver said. "And that could have a big effect on him. I feel strongly he'll end up at Florida. I really think there's a good shot."
Staver said his relationship with Ramsey could have a hand in him switching, but he's not forcing it.
"We're close friends and we hang out on the weekends. We're not just teammates," Staver said. "I mention Florida here and there, like it's the USC of the east coast and the flight is shorter for his parents to come watch him play. I'm not real pushy anymore because he's already heard it so much from me. I think that's a good thing because it shows I am a Gator and I'm trying to help Florida out, but I'm still real good friends with him and I'm respecting his decision even though I'm giving a little nudge. I think it's all gonna work itself out."
Ramsey remains firm with Trojans according to Staver, but he believes UF coach Will Muschamp can sway him if the success continues this season.
"I think he's still solidly committed to USC, but I can't really speak for him in that matter," Staver said. "USC lost to Stanford and now everyone is starting to question them a little bit. He was bragging when he committed there about how good they were, but they just got beat and Florida's on a roll.
"I would definitley say Florida is his second choice and I know he loved his visit. He was smiling a lot and cracking up. He talked with the DB coach a lot (Travaris Robinson) and coach Muschamp, too. We met everyone in the administration and then got to go out with some players and see the town. Plus we ate like five times a day. So we both had a fun time."
Ramsey did not respond to repeated calls and texts, but his father, Lamont Ramsey (a Gator fan, by the way), sent this text message to the Sun on Wednesday night.
"Jalen's visit went well, he enjoyed everything. The facilities, the academic environment and the people (coaches and fans) were all fanstastic. He's looking forward to coach Robinson coming to his game on Oct. 12."
The Florida football team travels to Vanderbilt that weekend.
The drive from Brentwood to Nashville is 20 minutes.
What are the odds Ramsey attends his fourth-straight Gator game?

Living a mile from the Brentwood Academy campus and having seen this young man play ball, I would be thrilled to see him choose to become a Florida Gator.

While this isn't a position of desperate need, you can never have to many good DB's. Ramsey's athletic ability and very high ceiling makes him a great commitment if we can sign him! GO ROBINSON, GO MUSCHAMP, and GO GATORS! And, Go Commit Max Staver!

hopefully he picks FL for the school itself.. not because we are winning (at the moment) if we do lose a few then he may change his mind.. I would want someone who wants to come to help the team to improve and go to championships.

Our secondary is going to be so loaded with Hargraves and this guy. I have a feeling he will switch because USC is simply to far away and they are going to be very weak after Barkely and Co leave.
