Re: [gatortalk] Did I dream what happened last night?

Yeah, seriously, this is what Muschamp has done, even to the fans. He crushed out spirits. I found myself not really believing what I was seeing, just waiting for us to screw up because we all know that the Gators suck on offense. It's where talented prep QBs go for their dreams to die. Then I found myself remembering ages past, that there is no reason we can't be an elite team, that we used to have national championship teams... that we have had three Heisman-winning QBs. Not only can we have a great offense, but we're entitled to it because we're the Gators! Are we back? Well, we're young and that usually means inconsistency, but if this is even just a taste of the future, then I am one happy Gator. Football can be fun again!

I'll take a stab at your questions.

1. For heaven's sake, Mac. I know you're trying to motivate your quarterbacks, but just name Will the starter already. He has earned it.

2. I don't know Treon personally, so I am going out on a limb here, but if he didn't learn from his earlier brushes with the law, then I don't think he will learn from his recent suspension and the fallout from that. I just hope that Treon will place his loss of the starting role where it belongs... squarely on his own shoulders. He may have won it without the suspension, or he may have lost it, but he took himself out of the competition and gave Grier the chance to make it his own.

3. I really can't believe that another player made that same gesture after all the attention that got last time. I imagine that will not go unpunished. On the penalty, if the rule is that the defender must be one yard out at the time of the catch, then our player did seem to be closer than that. What bothers me is that I have seen others do exactly that to our players, also within a yard, without ever seeing that penalty called before. I would like to see some consistency in the application of that rule. And I really do think it should be enforced. That's really dangerous for the kid receiving the kick.

4. This one worries me. The team came out very flat against UT, then played very well against Ole Miss. It's too early to tell if they can play consistently well. I do like the messages I'm hearing from Coach Mac, though. He is certainly aware of the need to keep them feeling like underdogs.

5. We're really strong against the pass, but have yet to prove ourselves against the run. Here's hoping we just improve every week.

6. I always enjoy Zach's reports in recruits after big games like this. This has to be huge for recruiting; who cannot think that the Gators are on the way back after this game? Even if we lose some big ones later, that just sends the message that we're on our way back, but we need 'you' to help us get the rest of the way.

7. Poor Charlie. We know he's a great coach, but he is just snake-bit in Texas. I hope they will give him another year to try to turn this thing around.
