[gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] [Louisville Courier Journal]: Kentucky football a few calls from beating Florida

Wow, the so called "writer" of this article lives in a fantasy land. Does he really follow football?

Yes, and if they'd just covered Doering the streak would only be 20 games.

UK head coach Mark Stoops during Saturday's game against the Florida Gators at Commonwealth Stadium. Florida defeated Kentucky 24-7. / Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Wait until next year, University of Kentucky fans.
By that time, UK coach Mark Stoops and his staff should have ironed out a few issues that hurt Wildcats in their loss to Florida on Saturday. And at this point it appears Will Muschamp doesn't look to be building anything special in Gainesville.
An admittedly undermanned, less-talented UK team may have toppled Florida were it not for some head-scratching decisions made by the Wildcats' rookie staff:
• Where was Jojo Kemp? That question had the press box buzzing on Saturday night after the explosive freshman dashed 11 yards on his first carry but touched it twice more.
Stoops and company had called for more Kemp coming into this game. But asked afterward why he didn't get more touches, the explanation was along the lines of, "I don't know." Ditto offensive coordinator Neal Brown, who brought running backs coach Chad Scott into the conversation.
Perhaps the running back rotation just got away from UK's staff. That happens under new head coaches, though probably not again to Stoops.
• As for the quarterback situation, UK needs to pick one. Going with the strengths of either Jalen Whitlow or Maxwell Smith may determine how much of an Air Raid offensive coordinator Brown can actually run.
Choosing a quarterback — or at least sticking with the same guy throughout a drive — would provide some consistency for an offensive line that stuck out Saturday as the Wildcats' weak spot.
• Strange clock management doomed UK's final drive of the first half, which left the Wildcats trailing 21-7 at the break. UK was moving inside Florida territory, had all three of its timeouts and didn't elect to use one until facing 4th and 4 with only 34 seconds left.
Even had the Wildcats converted, there was little time left to punch it in.
• In the third quarter, UK forced Florida quarterback Tyler Murphy's first incompletion on a Josh Forrest interception, had 1st and 10 in Gators territory and a chance to cut a 21-7 deficit to one possession.
But a running back throw backfired, as Florida got to the would-be passer in the backfield. Smith was then intercepted in the end zone to give Florida possession back — trickery failed after the 25-yard fake field goal that scored UK's only points earlier in the game.
Cut all that out and maybe next year the nation's longest current losing streak in a series ends at 27 games.
IN THE C-J
UK beat writer Kyle Tucker has more on the Florida game in his follow-up notebook from Saturday's game, with bits on Kemp, Forrest's interception and Joker Phillips' return to Commonwealth Stadium (http://cjky.it/19gPLZ7).
Columnist Adam Himmelsbach transcribed University of Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's interview Friday on the nationally syndicated Dan Patrick Show. Bridgewater sang in the choir as a kid, wants to buy his mother a pink Escalade and dunked basketballs over the summer with Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel (http://cjky.it/16PfDdx).
Speaking of Bridgewater, former UK running back Mark Higgs — now living in Florida — said the Cardinals' junior quarterback could have ended up a Wildcat if Phillips have hired a younger coaching staff. Of course, Higgs said that in context of his bewilderment over Phillips not hiring him, a former UK teammate (http://cjky.it/15BMQdf).
