2013 SEC Predictions – The SEC Champion
This is likely to be one of the best and most competitive SEC seasons
in quite a while with several games coming down to the wire. Top to
bottom no other conference recruits as well as the SEC, has better
facilities and better overall coaching. Because of that, getting to
Atlanta to represent the East or West in the SEC Championship game
may be more difficult than ever and we may see as big of a struggle to
be crowned champion as we saw when Jawjuh was 5 yards short.Since 1992, the East (11-10) has a 1 game advantage over the West in
the SEC Championship game with THE FLORIDA GATORS making more
appearances (10) and wins (7) than any other team in the SEC. Alabama
comes in second with 8 appearances and a 4-4 record. An average of 16
points separate the winner and loser of this game since its inception.
The largest margin of victory was by 39 points in 2010 with eventual
National Champion Auburn defeating first time participant South
Carolina. Two SEC Championships have been determined by 1 point since
1992. Florida vs. Arkansas in 1994 and Tennessee vs. Auburn in 1997.
Alabama and THE FLORIDA GATORS have met in the championship game a
total of 7 times with Florida having a 4-3 record. One interesting observation with this Championship game is that no
annual cross divisional rivalry has ever met again in the SEC
Championship game. Tennessee has never played Alabama. Florida has
never played LSU. Georgia has never played Auburn. In short, win
that cross-divisional game or you can basically forget playing in the
SECCG. Maybe. There is a first for everything though right? In fact, LSU and THE FLORIDA GATORS should break that record after
analyzing and predicting each game for each SEC team for the 2013
season. In the regular season match up, LSU was predicted to win by 3
over the Gators. Both teams ended 2012 with a loss in the bowl game.
LSU to Clemson by 1, THE FLORIDA GATORS to Louisville by 10. Both
teams a bit embarrassed by the loss, more so for the Gators. Both
teams have something to prove as all they are hearing all year is how
they won't even contend to represent the SEC divisions in the
championship game. They will hear they lost too much talent, or don't
have the talent, or the schedule is too difficult to navigate for
their team to make it to the big game. The media has predicted a rematch of UGAly vs. Alabama in the SEC
Championship game. They picked LSU and THE FLORIDA GATORS to each
finish third in their divisions. The media has correctly picked the
SEC Champion once in 2008 when they selected THE FLORIDA GATORS. The
media will get it wrong again in 2013. LSU and Florida will be the
first cross divisional foes to face each other again in the SEC
Championship game, and THE FLORIDA GATORS will win by 10 points and
crowned 2013 SEC Champions.Predicted 2013 SEC Final Standings
