Foley's right; there's a Deanie's only a couple of blocks off of Bourbon Street.  Another good dining spot is The Gumbo Shop.  They have a complete menu, not just gumbo.

Not sure if you are renting a car or not, but if you aren't I wouldn't fool with going to Metairie. Actually I wouldn't go out there either way. Its a nice enough suburb but the city is more unique. There is a Deanie's downtown, but for po-boys I would recommend Parkway Bakery and Tavern in Mid-City/Faubourg Saint John. Many think it is the best po-boy shop in the city. They have seating (and a bar) but it is sort of take out. If you are looking for something classy in New Orleans I would recommend Clancy's. One of a kind. Have fun!

I t is not fancy but is a favorite of locals (and me) and has been going for 50 years. I head there every time I am in NOLA.
