The thought of Mel Tillis brings back my favorite memory in television history.  Johnny Carson was on vacation so John Davidson was filling in.  Mel Tillis was the special guest that night.  Davidson asked about Mel's dipping snuff.  Mel invited Davison to try some.  Tillis said, "Just ta. ta. take a p p pinch between your ch ch cheek and your g g gum."  To which Davidson dutifully complied.  Davidson turned green and promptly threw up on National TV.  I wish there would have been YouTube back then.  I would love to see it again.

You are right - Mel Tillis was a Bull Gator for a bunch of years.
