I would agree, had the author referred to the Postseason NIT.

However, he used the phrase "an NIT," would would seem to include all types of NITs.

Pedantic, perhaps. I just remember watching Livingston Chatman that tournament and thinking what a great team we had.

Didn't want it to be forgotten.

Well, one could argue that the NIT tournament he is referring to is not the same as the Preseason NIT tournament which Zeb found.  Played at different times of the year and seeded completely differently.
