Re: [gatortalk] Re: Billy d and 6 large

It is a strange concept, but there is a point where the ultra-wealthy can't spend money fast enough.

Buy a lavish home? It will probably go up in value. Ditto for a jet or yacht.

Sure the fuel is spent, but the actual ability to spends 10s of millions of dollars is well nigh impossible short of simply giving it to charity.

So, the question is what can you spend money on? The world's finest wines, the world's greatest restaurants, the finest seats at the opera or Broadway. Unfortunately, none of those things are in Oklahoma City. They are in places like New York, Miami and Los Angeles. Heck, Philly even has better restaurants than OC.

There's not even enough water to park a yacht in Oklahoma City. Maybe Billy D. could gig out one of those land yacht things with the bedrooms that pop out the side when you get to the KOA. That might set him back a million. Then what?

Zeb,

I have seen this comment before but after-tax (State), the 6 million is 5.67 million.  I would happily take the difference.  1.67 million per year would buy quite a bit of comfort even in Oklahoma.

On the other hand, how much money does someone need?  Maybe he could use his savings and buy the Thunder.  (Estimated value of $967 million according to Forbes).

You have to wonder what his net worth is?  Over the 19 years at Florida, he has done well.

"Wojnarowski said Donovan could command $6 million a year, but noted he did not have to pay state income tax in Florida. A five-year deal worth $35 million or more might not out of the question for Donovan, who recently signed a one-year extension through the 2020 season that pushed his annual average salary to $4 million."

Seriously; after taxes what is the significant difference between these two amounts?

Also, short of Scrooge McDucking a swimming pool, what on earth could anyone do with that much money in Oklahoma? I am not making this up - one of the top things to do in Oklahoma City is the National Banjo museum.

The other is to go look at the basketball arena - the place he would be working at. What a great day off - "Honey, let's go look at my workplace."

My brother-in-law's sister lives in Oklahoma. She is a new grandmother. The child's name? "Poppy Capri." I am not making this up. Only in Oklahoma.

If Billy D. wants to make 6 million a year and coach the Lakers or the Knicks, so be it. At least he would be able to spend some of that money at a decent restaurant. Oklahoma City? I'll spot him the money for as much Golden Corral that he could eat.

Who would want to be a multimillionaire if it meant living in Oklahoma? I'll take Door Number 3, please.
