He's my top choice unless Foley can pull a Chip Kelly miracle out of thin air, I would be very happy with him. Don't get hung up on the big buy-out, as some have mentioned other places, like Adam at Only Gators, there are other ways to compensate CSU, like a home and home series with them. It is doable if Foley likes him and he is willing to leave. Some bloggers out there think he is a West guy, but that may be wishful thinking/homerism.

So I'm curious what everyone thinks about McElwain. I don't really know that much about him, but the little bit these articles have said make him sound promising to me. His CSU team has at least been trending in the right direction. Forgetting any issues about buyout costs or whether he'd come here, etc., would you want him as our next coach?

Colorado State's Jim McElwain is a leading candidate for the University of Florida's vacant head football coaching position, sources told Yahoo on Sunday.
Per Yahoo's Pat Forde:
McElwain and Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley discussed the Gators job Saturday night, sources said.
Information has been gathered on McElwain by Florida officials since the school announced two weeks ago that Will Muschamp would not return as coach, sources said. It is unclear how many other candidates may be involved. Sources said Mississippi coach Hugh Freeze was among those on Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley's radar, but McElwain's name may be at the top of the list.
McElwain, 52, a former offensive coordinator at Alabama under Nick Saban from 2008-11, is in his third season at Colorado State and has led the Rams to a 10-2 mark this season. He seems like a solid choice, but a $7.5 million contract buyout at Colorado State could stand in the way of his hiring.
Reports surfaced late Sunday that Freeze — who has led Mississippi to a 9-3 record this season, including wins over Mississippi State and then-No. 1 Alabama — has already been offered the position at Florida for somewhere in the vicinity of $4.2 million a season. But Florida reps have denied that claim, calling any such report "false."
The outgoing Muschamp coached his final game for the Gators in Saturday evening's 24-19 loss to in-state rivals Florida State.
