Re: [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] [SUN]: It's official, Harris off UF team

From what i understand he was skipping classes and wasnt putting a very good effort in in practice. I know its a combination of things.

I am sad to see that he just could not get it together.  I had hoped that he would come through and add some great depth.  We could use his skills come March.

On the other hand, he can't be allowed to be a disruption for the team.

Does anyone know what his problem was?  I am assuming that it was substance abuse.

It's official, Harris off UF team

Damontre Harris transferred to UF in 2012 from South Carolina and sat out of practice most of his redshirt season (2012-13) with a torn labrum. He never appeared in a game for the Gators.

The short-lived stay of Florida redshirt junior center Damontre Harris is over.

Florida announced Saturday that Harris is off the Gators basketball team, officially ending weeks of speculation about his status. The 6-foot-10 South Carolina transfer had been suspended from the beginning of the season due to undisclosed disciplinary issues.

Harris transferred to UF in 2012 and sat out of practice most of his redshirt season (2012-13) with a torn labrum. He never appeared in a game for the Gators.

"He was never disrespectful as far as his attitude," Florida coach Billy Donovan said in a statement. "He was a nice kid and never blamed anybody for what was happening. We tried to help him off the court and help him with some of the challenges he was dealing with, but there was never this reciprocation of wanting to be helped, or wanting to do the things necessary."

Harris completed his semester at Florida in good academic standing and has been granted permission to transfer to any school without restrictions. An impact shot-blocker, Harris finished second in the Southeastern Conference in blocked shots in 2012 (2.3 blocks per game).
