Will Muschamp's new offensive coordinator is Duke's Kurt Roper, according to multiple reports Tuesday. Roper, who holds the same position at Duke, interviewed for the job with Muschamp in Gainesville on Monday.

Roper is expected to be officially announced as the new UF offensive coordinator later in the week. UF officials would neither confirm or deny the hire Tuesday night.

According to reports, Roper will remain with the Blue Devils through next Tuesday's Chick-fil-A Bowl game against Texas A&M.

Roper has been at Duke as David Cutcliffe's offensive coordinator the past six seasons.

The Blue Devils' offense finished the regular season 49th in scoring (31.6 points per game) and 68th in total yards (408.1 yards per game) under Roper, better than the results turned in by the Gators under Brent Pease, who was fired earlier this month after the Gators suffered their first losing season since 1979 and whose offense finished 111th in the nation at 18.8 points per game and 112th in total offense at 316.7 yards.

Roper was flown to Gainesville on Monday and interviewed by Muschamp.

ESPN and the Raleigh News & Observer first reported the hire and said an official announcement will be made later this week.

Sources close to the program told The Sun on Monday that it would be after the Jan. 1 bowl games before an offer would be made to anyone. A source also said there have been no offers made to anyone and that while Muschamp has talked to several possible coordinators, including Roper, he still has others to talk to and they won't be freed up until after the Jan. 1 bowls.

Muschamp certainly is familiar with Roper. The two coached against each other three times when Muschamp was an assistant at LSU and Roper was on the Ole Miss staff.

Roper spent six seasons under David Cutcliffe at Ole Miss and helped develop quarterback Eli Manning.

Roper also has worked with UF wide receivers coach Joker Phillips. Roper was the quarterbacks coach at Kentucky one season (2005) under Phillips, the Wildcats' offensive coordinator.

Roper spent two seasons (2006-7) as the running backs coach at Tennessee before becoming Duke's offensive coordinator in 2008.

In three of Roper's seasons with the Blue Devils, his quarterback has thrown for more than 3,000 yards.
