RE: [gatortalk] The Greatest

I was with you, Zeb until you mentioned Zook and Dickey.

What I was trying to do, to little avail, was to get some sort of conversation going on this lonely list.  Hello!!  Anybody there?

When there’s no football, there’s not much happening here.

That said, I’d probably have to agree with SOS as the best/greatest coach.  He took us from contender to NC winner.

I guess all those guys did that, each in his own way.  Charlie Pell got people to start spending money on the Gators.

Meyer kept the NCs coming.  Coach Graves made us winners.

Zook?  Dickey?  The year Dickey was fired 11 players were drafted into the NFL.  All that talent and what to show for it?

I remember walking across campus during Dickey’s reign and seeing a car tag.  It said something like, “I’m tired of waiting until Next Year!”

I say the greatest Gator Coach was Ray Graves. He took a perennial also ran and moved them into contender status.
Ray's work made it possible for SOS, who he recruited, to build a team which would eventually win a NC.

I might argue for Pell on the same basis.

That said, my vote is for SOS.

That would be an interesting poll:

Graves

Pell

Spurrier

Meyer

and for fun, either Dickey or Zook.
