We certainly must have - I was in G'ville from 1984 through 1988 - I lived on campus the first two years and worked at the bookstore (mostly in the admin offices) on and off from late '85 until I left town.

Dwayne was a business major... finance, maybe? As an accounting major, I saw him and Emmitt a lot. At one point, I had a class right next to Dwayne, and there was always a parting of the Red Sea kinda thing that went on when he walked down the hall. LOL. I remember watching him interacting with other students outside the classroom, and he seemed really good natured and friendly with them. I found myself standing beside him in the hall one day, and it was pretty weird for my 5'3" self to see just how freaking TALL he was!
Sad... just 43 years old. When I informed him that one of his paperbacks was essentially worthless, he leaned down (and that says a lot, since I was sitting on high stool behind a raised counter) and showed me the front cover where he'd signed his name (the "S" in "Schintzius" was a dollar sign). He said that it was worth at least 10 times the cover price just for the autograph. I laughed, told him to try another bookstore and stop complaining, because I knew he got his books for free in the first place as part of his scholarship.
The other time I'd encountered him was also at the bookstore, when he came in to get his books for the semester. The scholarship counter was in the back of the textbook section, and the textbook section had a bit of a dropped ceiling. We had never seen anyone have to duck to walk back to the scholarship counter, but Dwayne did. It was policy that we were not allowed to "pester" any of the athletes when they came to the scholarship counter (otherwise Emmitt Smith would have spent half an afternoon taking pictures and signing autographs for the employees), but apparently Schintizius was the exception. Next thing we knew, a member of the bookstore management asked him to stand next to this one incredibly short lady (about 4' 7") who worked at the Hub so we could get a comparison, and the manager snapped a picture. Schintzius was pretty good-natured about the whole thing.
I know he had a bad reputation for being a bit of a jerk, and even though one could see he was a bit arrogant, I found him amusing. I could see where stupid comments like, "How's the weather up there?" would get on your nerves after awhile and make one a bit surly.

Dwayne had a star-crossed life, it's probably not easy being 7'2".
He's among friends tonight, where school loyalty knows no bounds.
