Re: [gatortalk] Uh oh! They're starting to suspect me!

Well, I do miss getting drunk and swimming in Lake Alice. That's the closest they'll get to a confession.

For some reason, my students all think I had something to do with this.   :-)

RE: Possible Alligator Sighting in Upper Lake

The Department of Campus Safety has received two reports regarding the possible sighting of an alligator in the Upper Lake.  Both incidents have been reported to local law enforcement and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF), who has jurisdiction over the investigation.

While the object spotted in the lake has not been confirmed by the VDGIF as an alligator, based on current evidence, authorities believe it is likely the animal exists. We recognize our campus lakes are not a natural habitat for alligators, and we are investigating how this animal arrived here.

The VDGIF does not believe there is an imminent threat to the campus community, but proper caution should be exercised until the issue is resolved.

·        Do not swim in either the Upper or Lower Lake until further notice.

·        You also are advised to avoid the banks and trails surrounding the lakes, especially when walking pets.

·        Should you see anything suspicious, report it immediately to the Department of Campus Safety by calling (434) 381-6111.

The Department of Campus Safety will continue working with local and state agencies to investigate this matter. Another communication will be sent to the campus community with the situation is resolved and it is safe to return to normal lake activities.
