[gatortalk] Fwd: [gatornews] [SUN]: Florida falls in semifinals to UCLA 4-0

They certainly overachieved to make it to the final 4.
Too bad they couldn't win it all at Athens. Breaking their little doggy hearts by beating them at home while they were ranked #1 will have to do.

ATHENS, Ga. — For the first hour of singles play, No. 3 UCLA dominated action and it looked like victory would be quick against No. 8 Florida in the NCAA women's tennis championships semifinals.

The Gators rallied, but the Bruins did prevail in the end, 4-0, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus on Monday.

The Gators (23-6) stood toe-to-toe with the nation's No. 1 and No. 9-ranked doubles teams, but fell to both in tiebreakers, 8-7 (5), as the Bruins claimed what proved to be a very crucial point in the dual match. UCLA has won the doubles point in every match it played this season, compiling a 57-5 individual doubles mark in dual match play through Monday's action.

UCLA (26-2) came out strong on all six singles courts, capturing the first set on five of the courts, with only senior Sofie Oyen managing to win hers 7-6 (3) for the Gators on Court 3.

The Bruins' Jennifer Brady (No. 8) downed No. 14 Olivia Janowicz, 6-1, 6-1, and No. 2 Robin Anderson handled No. 16 Brianna Morgan, 6-1, 6-3.

"I didn't think we hung our heads after losing the doubles point, even though it was big momentum for them," UF coach Roland Thornqvist said.
