RE: [gatortalk] Fwd: [gatornews] [SUN]: UF women lose at LSU

She may not be on the hot seat, but I bet she was at the beginning of the season.

The team has done very well this year.  Recruiting has also been good.

Good question considering I thought Amanda was on the flaming hot seat .. but apparently she's far from that from what ppl are telling me.  With what she's accomplished this year with what she has to work with... Id say I was very wrong about that hot seat thing.

That's the recipe to beat us right now until we get some depth.  The $10,000 question is:  how good would we be if we had enough people dressed?

What they don't mention in this article is that Florida had only seven players dressed for the game since Christin Mercer did something to get herself suspended.  Four players played 38 minutes or more, and Ronni Williams fouled out with roughly 5 minutes left.  Those women were totally gassed at the end of the game.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Facing a string of ranked teams finally took a toll on the Florida women's basketball team Sunday, when No. 12 LSU defeated the Gators 82-68.

Florida opened SEC play 3-0 for the first time since the 1997-98 season thanks to wins at No. 6 Kentucky on Jan. 5 and over No. 25 Arkansas on Thursday.

But the Tigers (13-3, 2-1 SEC) opened with a 14-2 burst sparked by a Jeanne Kenney 3-pointer to build a lead they never lost, but later had to quell a Florida drive midway through the second half to secure the win and end the Gators winning streak at nine games.

“We were chasing from the beginning and that's not the way our team plays best,” Florida coach Amanda Butler said. “Once they got up on us, they did a good job of keeping their foot on the gas to make it very hard for us to creep back in.”

Trailing by as many as 19 points, Florida (13-4, 3-1) shaved the deficit to single-digits in the second half with a 7-0 run that included a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws from Kayla Lewis, making it 62-55 with 8:23 to go.

But LSU got crucial buckets down the stretch, and Florida couldn't close the gap.

“Our second-half effort was fantastic, but that's not enough when you're playing a team in this league, on their home court,” Butler said.

Cassie Peoples led the Gators with 22 points.

The Gators will have a week to regroup thanks to a Thursday bye from action and return to the court Sunday when they host No. 25 Georgia at 1 p.m.
