--McElwain and White rewarded with extensions, raises

Florida football coach Jim McElwain and men's basketball coach Mike White both received contract extensions and raises designed to keep them in Gainesville for the foreseeable future.
McElwain agreed to terms of a one-year extension through January of 2023 that will bump his annual salary from $4.1645 million to $4.486 million. In addition, per terms of the contract, McElwain's maximum bonus potential will increase from $450,000 to $850,000 and his buyout protection will increase from $2.25 million to $2.5 million per year remaining on his contract. That buyout is subject to mitigation from other SEC employers.
White also agreed a one-year extension that bumped his average annual salary from $2 million to $2.71 million. White's bonus structure on his contract hasn't changed.
McElwain led Florida to a 19-8 record and two SEC East titles in his first two seasons at UF. The Gators are coming off a 30-3 win over Iowa in the Outback Bowl. White, meanwhile, enjoyed a breakthrough second season, leading Florida to a 27-9 record and its ninth Elite Eight appearance in school history this past season.
First-year Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin said in March following UF's Elite Eight loss that he had begun dialogue with White on a contract extension based on White's stellar second season. White earned SEC coach of the year honors, leading UF to a 14-4 conference record.
"Both Coach Mac and Coach White have done a phenomenal job of leading our programs, and we are looking forward to having them lead the Gators for years to come," Stricklin said. "As much as both have won games and provided a lot of great memories for our fans and stability for the programs they lead, they have both had a huge impact on the development and personal growth of the athletes they coach."
McElwain's raise puts him as the fifth-highest-paid football coach in the SEC, behind Alabama's Nick Saban ($11.125 million/year), Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin ($5 million), Auburn's Gus Malzahn ($4.729 million) and Ole Miss' Hugh Freeze ($4.703 million).
White's raise puts him as the fourth-highest-paid basketball coach in the SEC behind Kentucky's John Calipari ($7.3 million/yr), South Carolina's Frank Martin ($3.3 million) and Alabama's Avery Johnson ($2.8 million).
McElwain's revised bonus structure includes $100,000 for reaching the SEC title game, $200,000 for winning an SEC title, $100,000 for winning a bowl game (that can increase to $200,000 if it's a Big 6 bowl win), $250,000 for reaching the Final Four of the College Football Playoff (that can increase to $300,000 for reaching CFP title game and $400,000 for winning a national title), $50,000 for winning league coach of the year, $75,000 for winning national coach of the year and up to $100,000 in academic incentive bonuses.
The academic bonuses include $100,000 for a single-year APR score of 965 or above. That bonus would decrease to $75,000 for an APR score between 950 and 964 and $50,000 for an APR score between 940 and 949.
