Florida linebackers coach Christian Robinson has decided to remain on staff after landing a job offer from Michigan, The Sun has confirmed.
FootballScoop.com first reported last Friday that Robinson was planning to leave for Ann Arbor, a move that was confirmed by The Sun and multiple news outlets. However, the hire had not been finalized at the time.
Robinson was formally offered by Michigan over the weekend after it officially hired defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, who worked with Robinson at Georgia. But according to Football Scoop, Gators coach Dan Mullen countered Michigan's offer by offering to raise Robinson's pay.
The Sun has yet to confirm the amount, but Mullen was able to keep Robinson at UF. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh announced two hires Wednesday night, completing his defensive coaching staff.
Robinson received the biggest raise among UF assistants last year, getting an extra $175,000 that put his 2020 salary at $290,000. He is considered one of Florida's better recruiters, landing five-star linebacker Derek Wingo in the 2020 class and recently signing top-100 overall recruit Jeremiah Williams and four-star linebacker Diwun Black, the nation's No. 1 JUCO prospect.
Mullen has one more opening on his defensive staff after retaining Robinson. UF parted ways with secondary coaches Ron English and Torrian Gray earlier this month and replaced one of them with former Auburn assistant Wesley McGriff.

Facing the highest-ranked opponent on their 2020-21 schedule thus far, the Gators received more bad news prior to tip-off when it was announced starting center Colin Castleton, the team's most impressive player in conference play, wouldn't be available due to the ankle injury he suffered Saturday in Starkville, Mississippi, in UF's prior contest.
Despite being as short-handed as they've been all year, the Gators available for Tuesday's contest with No. 6-ranked Tennessee didn't get the message they were supposed to go quietly.
Florida jumped out to a 38-27 lead at halftime and never looked back, eventually securing a 75-49 defeat of the Volunteers at the Exactech Arena in the O'Connell Center.

The victory marked coach Mike White's fifth against a top-10 opponent in his UF coaching career, and the fourth with a margin of 17 points or more.
In his first start of the season, the 6-foot-10 sophomore Omar Payne had nine points, nine rebounds and five blocks in 27 minutes in relief of Castleton.
With sophomore Scottie Lewis out for the third consecutive game due to "health and safety protocol", Noah Locke again earned the start in Lewis' place and scored a team-high 14 points in 35 minutes.
Payne wasn't the only UF frontcourt option either on the night, as Jason Jitoboh played a season-high 13 minutes, while junior Osayi Osifo tallied four points and six rebounds.
The Gators were active on the boards after getting out-rebounded their last time out against Mississippi State, as UF hauled in eight more boards than the Volunteers.
Florida's lead grew to 20 with 14:15 remaining on Locke's successful free throw, although the Vols would cut Florida's advantage to 55-44 with 9:56 to play, but the Gators would go on a 11-0 run over the next 3:16 to keep comfortably in front. With the victory secured, UF had an opportunity to substitute in walk-ons Alex Klatsky and Jack May with more than a minute left in regulation.
Florida will be back in action on the road in Athens, Georgia, when UF takes on UGA Saturday at 2 p.m.

Yeah I pretty much agree. White got saved by the covid outbreak or he could've been let go at the end of last season. Good recruiter and talks a good game but that's about it.
The Florida Gators men's basketball team lost Saturday at Kentucky, scoring their fewest points of the season in a 76-58 drubbing in Gainesville.
In an ordinary season, this would be a disappointing loss but not too concerning: John Calipari and the Wildcats are a perennial national powerhouse and often the class of the SEC.
But this is no ordinary season. Kentucky is off to its worst start in a long time, and Saturday's defeat has Gators Nation in arms over head coach Mike White.
White is in his sixth season leading UF with a record of 113-68. While he led the Gators to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, his record against top teams is less glamorous.
UF has lost two games in a row, both by at least 15 points. Gators fans vented their frustration on Twitter after Saturday's loss.

Defensive tackle Antonio Shelton is transferring to Florida, the 6-foot-2, 327-pound graduate transfer from Penn State announced on social media Wednesday.
While Shelton is coming in, linebacker James Houston IV announced on his social media account that he put his name in the NCAA transfer portal:

In three season, Houston, a redshirt junior, had 100 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. This past season, he made 37 tackles (20 solo) and one sack.
Shelton was in on 51 tackles and six sacks in his four seasons at Penn State. He made seven starts in 2020 and recorded 13 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble and a pass deflection.

If anything, in my opinion, this is is more on Mullen! How you have one of the best offenses of all time but can't recruit or coach a defense (regardless of the coordinator)? That's Mullen's purview as well!

It's not offensive and it is reasonable to hold highly paid coaches accountable. But the defense was top ten the previous two years. He hasn't all of a sudden forgotten how to coach. Some of our current three stars just haven't developed as well as in the past.
How is it offensive to hold highly paid coaches accountable, especially when the persons who are actually working and risking life & limb are not being compensated?
