On quarterback Kyle Trask's failed two-point run attempt against the Wildcats, it appears on video that UK middle linebacker Kash Daniel is wrenching and twisting Trask's ankle in the pile.
Trask reacted Monday.
"As you all saw, but at the end of the day it's football. It is what it is," he said. "There's nothing I can do about it, so I'm just focused on Tennessee right now. That's all behind me."
Trask got up from the play and said something to Daniel.
"Yeah, it was in the moment," Trask said. "It is what it is. Like I said, it's in the past. Nothing I can do about it."
Maybe the SEC will, Mullen said.
"When that stuff happens, that's something for the league office and the commissioner," Mullen said. "I'm sure it's around the media. I'm sure they've looked at it. I'm sure it's something they would address."
The response from the SEC office Monday evening by Associate Commissioner Herb Vincent: "As a routine function of the SEC officiating program, game video is reviewed weekly in the Conference Office. Feedback on any issues discovered during this review are identified confidentially to the involved program and is appropriately addressed at that time."
So, unless Kentucky discloses anything on the matter, it won't be made public.
Run, Josh, run
During the timeout before wide receiver Josh Hammond dashed 76 yards for a touchdown on a speed sweep with 30 seconds left in the game Saturday, Hammond said Mullen told him two things — and one of them was not to go down after making the first so the Gators could run out the remaining time in the game.
"He kept saying, 'Get the first down and stay in bounds. Get the first down and stay in bounds. Get the first down and stay in bounds,' " Hammond said. He never told me, 'Get down.' So, it never, like, even crossed my mind to go down. I was just trying to stay in bounds, and it just popped."
Mullen was probably the only Gator in the stadium rooting for Hammond not to score.
"I was running down the field saying, 'Get down, get down!' " Mullen said. "Everybody else was celebrating, 'Score. Go, go, go!', and I'm like, 'No, no, no.' "
CJ, Zuinga on injured list
Starting cornerback CJ Henderson is still limited due to a sprained ankle that kept him out of the Kentucky game and he likely will not practice for most of the week. Starting defensive end Jabari Zuniga is in a similar situation after spraining his ankle in the first half of Saturday's game.
"We feel it's going to be on the edge whether CJ Henderson is ready to play (by Saturday)," Mullen said. "We feel pretty good about it. The nice thing with him being a veteran player is I don't expect him to practice much this week. We have five more days, six more days or whatever, to get him healthy, to get him to go play in the game. Zuniga will be in that same kind of category."
Outside linebacker/star Amari Burney (unspecified) is expected back after sitting out the UK game. Rush defensive end Jon Greenard sprained his ankle in Saturday's game, but is good to go for Saturday's game, Mullen said.
SEC honors Reese
Senior middle linebacker David Reese was named the SEC's defensive player of the week for his 16-tackle performance against the Wildcats.
Reese was credited with 13 solo tackles. He had the stops on two crucial plays in the fourth quarter — a third-and-one and a fourth-and-one, where he held the 'Cats short of the down to make both times.
"Those plays my d-line did a great job," he said. "On the first play, (tackle) TJ Slaton did a great job of slamming to the opposite gap and it just cleared it up for me. On the next play call my coach, he drew it up, and we were in the right position at the right time."
Reese said the 13 solos are the most he's ever had at Florida. He said he had more than 13 in a game in high school several times.
"Probably 20-plus (solo tackles)," he said.
